Controlling the Kemper Profiler with the Boss GT-5

Hi,

I was wondering if I could use my Boss GT-5 as a remote for the Kemper profiler as my budget was exhausted after purchasing the Kemper and I did not expect to get much for my GT-5 which is at least 16 years or older...

So... yes, you can control the Kemper with the GT-5.

First thing you need to do is: Connect "MIDI out" of the GT-5 with "MIDI in" of the Kemper.
2nd thing: Check the MIDI settings in the GT-5 (hit 4 times "Utility").

My settings are:

This one is important: PC out causes the profiler to change channels if you change the Slot in the GT-5. Example? Well, in Perform mode selecting Bank 11 Slot 1 in the GT-5 will cause the Kemper to switch to Performance 1. Slot 1. Hitting Slot 5 on the Boss will result in Performance 1 Slot 5 and so on. Changing to Bank 13/Slot 2 will result in Performance 3 Slot 2 etc.

In Browse mode you will simply get your Rigs as they are stored on the Profiler alphabetically.

This one controls what the expression pedal does. Please refer to the Kemper profiler manual ("the deeper view") in the MIDI-chapter if you want to control something else, a wah for instance has #1, Volume as I use it has #7

This is the control pedal on the GT-5. I set it to #30 (that is tapping the tempo).
The problem is, that the built-in control pedal only works as a momentary switch. That means if you want to activate a stomp box using the control pedal it is only turned on as long as you hold the control pedal. If you take your foot off - the stomp box will also turn out.

However you could use an external switch for this application as long as it is a switch in latch mode:

So for me everything works fine at the moment. I can change slots, tap tempo and use the volume pedal. Maybe I'll solder some extra (momentary) switches and attach them directly to the Kemper to control stomp boxes (the Kemper himself needs momentary instead of latch mode for turning on stomp boxes and stuff). Maybe I'll get myself another expression pedal and attach it to the GT-5, who knows...
